Horse - S/T 7"

If you grew up going to shows in Michigan in the 90's to mid 2000's you probably managed to see the Fags or HiFi Handgrenades on a bill once or twice. Or at the very least, you had seen mention of them on a flyer plastered to Small's, Magic Bag or Magic Stick. Both extremely solid acts with very talented musicians involved.

*Side note:

I had never even heard Superchunk when I was 18 and my band played at Small's with HiFi / Only Crime. I remember them getting up on stage and playing a cover of "Detroit Has a Skyline" and it may as well had been their own, because it blew me away. *

Flashback to when I was in a car with a good friend of mine, both on our way to inspect cars for a job we both worked together years ago. Brandon has always been a wealth of knowledge when it comes to music and it is something I totally love about him. On this particular morning he decided to play Hoarse for me, which was something I had never heard of before. *I had seen HiFi live and played on bills with them, but unfortunately missed the boat on the Fags too (that whole age thing).

Turns out this band was the perfect 90's pop punk blend to me. After hearing them in Brandon's, I ran across "Happens Twice" sitting in a used bin at Wyatt Earp and of course I picked it up. It was perfect! Killer bass lines that flowed perfectly with the drums and a guitar style that to me, mimicked Stephen Egerton. But it was better than that, because it was from Detroit, MI! And it happened in and around a scene that I wasn't connected to at the time, but was now.

Anyway, I found a copy of their early s/t 7" (before they changed the spelling of the name) a while back at Encore, which includes the original version of "Long Gone" on it (my favorite song). Download it and check it out, Robby's bass run on this version is so fucking rock 'n roll. It's perfect!
